Located 23 kilometers offshore from Entebbe, Ngamba Island offers a unique opportunity for close viewing of chimpanzees in their natural environment.

Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary lies in Uganda’s central regions and is situated 23 kilometers south east of the town of Entebbe. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a perfect environment for rescued and orphaned chimps.

Your accommodation will be at the Ngamba Island Camp. Each tent accommodates two persons (twin beds) in comfort, with duvets and all linen supplied, en suite bathroom facilities and solar lighting.

The sanctuary is sustained by the Uganda wildlife Education centre, the Jane Goodall Institute and the Born Free Foundation among others.

A 45 minutes cruise on a motor boat or using traditional canoes gets you to the Island. Swimming, recreation and bird watching are some of the activities on the Island.

Visiting and spending 2 nights there is among the many ways of supporting the conservation of chimps as endangered species.

3 DAYS 2 NIGHT NGAMBA ISLAND CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY SAFARI DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Kampala – Boar Ride To Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

After breakfast at your Hotel in Kampala you will depart by road to Entebbe. Our first stop is at the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, established in 1898 on the shores of Lake Victoria and an enclave for myriad birdlife.

The Entebbe Botanic Gardens are also home to around 115 species of bird.

After, we visit the Jane Goodall Institute management at their offices for short briefing then and transfer to the waterfront club jetty located on Lake Victoria and head some 23 kms from Entebbe town by boat to Ngamba Islands.

Boat transfer by Speedboat – approximately 50 minutes, weather dependant. Boat transfer by Traditional boat – approximately 90 minutes, weather dependant.

On our way we will cross the Equator where the captain will make a stop for photos and swimming (optional).

Upon arrival at the island, home to 45 chimpanzee you will have an introductory talk about the conservation and care of the chimps and enjoy watching them being fed.

You will be allowed about an hour with the chimpanzees and later after lunch you may choose to have a nature walk in the forest or participate in sport fishing or just relax at the hotel.

Day 2 : Explore Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

After breakfast, enjoy a forest walk. Some playful chimps, pull your hair, climb on you or just walk along holding your hand! (Guests require vaccinations for this activity, which is restricted to three people at any one time, and should ask for further details before booking).

Lunch at the camp and either relax at the Lake Victoria’s shores or take a walk in the forest in search for birds, butter flies and other small insects are also present.

In the evening, as the day ends join us for an exclusive sunset cruise as you enjoy the unique view of fishermen casting their nets, fishing villages as they wind down the day and of course the golden circular site of natures eye going to sleep.

As you sip away on cold drinks in a romantic bliss.

On return after dinner, indulge us as we work you through the cultures of Uganda through music, dance, storytelling and drama.

Day 3: Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary – Kampala

Morning at leisure, after breakfast, return to the main land and transfer you back to Kampala.
