Sangare Conservancy is a 6,500 acre property nestled between the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, at 6000 Feet / 2000 Meter above sea level.

The Conservancy is located approximately 166 km north of Nairobi, 27 km from Nyeri town and 50 km from Nanyuki.

A high standard fence has been built around the periphery of the property. As a result Sangare conservancy now boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including several rare species with over 40 species of animals.

There are over 300 species of birds and 63 recorded species of indigenous trees and shrubs, including sandalwood (Osris lanceolata), a prized timber now almost non- existent many indigenous forests in Kenya.

SANGARE CONSERVANCY HIGHLIGHTS | WHAT TO DO AND SEE

Game Drives: Game drives around Sangare Conservancy offer up a plethora of wildlife, with over more than 40 species of animals, 300 species of birds and 63 species of indigenous shrubs and trees.

Fishing: The streams and rivers which criss-cross Sangare Conservancy are stocked with trout and anglers are encouraged, should they wish, to bring a rod and try their luck and, tight lines permitting, bring back a fish for supper.

Horse riding: Horse-riding offers another vantage point for exploring the scenery and wildlife on Sangare Conservancy. It is outsourced and can be arranged with prior notice, subject to availability.

Sangare Nature walks: Guided game walks offer a slower and more relaxed way of exploring the conservancy. Sangare’s birdlife is incredibly rich and on the plains, antelopes, Giraffes zebra etc barely lift their heads as guests walk by.

The Bongo Tree House: There is a tree-house hide which is available for use to be able to – if you’re very lucky – see these elusive, shy antelope in their natural habitat.

4 DAY SANGARE CONSERVANCY ABERDARE KENYA SAFARI HOLIDAY ITINERARY

Day 1 Nairobi – Drive To Sangare Wildlife Conservancy (Aberdare/ Mt Kenya)

0800 Hours: After breakfast depart by road to Sangare conservancy. The drive from Nairobi to the conservancy is scenic passing through Kikuyu farm country.

You will make a brief stop at the Karatina market for a short tour to the local market. The drive from Nairobi takes 3 hours and you will cover 166 km total to the ranch.

1230 Hours: Arrive at the conservancy and proceed for lunch at the Sangare Under Canvas Tented Camp. Check-in and relax after lunch at the camp.

1530 Hours: Depart for the afternoon game-drive. Sangare provides an important wildlife corridor between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare National Parks.

Sangare has two large rivers running through and two springs, providing a welcome refuge for wildlife in times of drought, where water cannot easily be accessed.

Animals seen include Baboon, Monkey, Jackal, Hyena, Caracal, Leopard, Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, Eland Water buck , gazelle, Impala, Buffalo among others.

1830 Hours: Return back to the camp for dinner and overnight

Day 2: Full Day In Sangare Wildlife Conservancy

0800 Hours: After breakfast there’s plenty to do here: watch wildlife from your verandah or join in Sangare Conservancy charity projects, fishing in Sangare streams and rivers stocked with trout.

Other activities include guided game walks exploring the conservancy, Horse riding exploring the scenery and wildlife on Sangare ranch, Sangare Conservancy Game Drives around the Conservancy and Swimming.

Day 3: Enjoy Day A Trip To Nearby Attractions

0800 Hours: After breakfast at the camp, you have the option to explore the surrounding areas. 

Aberdare National Park provides another unique and varied landscape for guests to explore, from montane forests to the open moorlands.

Day trips with picnics are a wonderful way to spend a day, overlooking some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the country.

Mount Kenya; Mount Kenya, which looms majestically over Sangare calls to some guests. Day trips up into the moorlands are a fun and exciting way to spend a day, with a picnic.

For some, the peaks call and guests can use Sangare as a base to come back to once they have scaled the peaks of Lenana, Nelian or Batian, where a welcome hot shower, a hearty meal and a comfortable bed can revive weary limbs.

Solio Game Reserve: Solio Game Reserve is a private wildlife sanctuary very close to Sangare.

The Solio Reserve is internationally recognized as the most successful private rhino breeding reserve in Kenya and visitors will find that sightings of up to 40 rhinoceros at a time are not uncommon.

The wildlife experience here is intense and exclusive with 19,000 acres of conservancy surrounded by 45,000 acres of ranch.

Day 4: Sangare Wildlife Conservancy – Drive To Nairobi

0800 Hours: Enjoy leisure breakfast at the camp and later leave for Nairobi to arrive early afternoon.
