The island lies in Uganda’s central regions and is situated 23 km south east of the town of Entebbe. You will travel by boat to Ngamba Island and spend time among the sanctuary’s 40 + resident chimpanzees.

You will earn about the chimp conservation work of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust, and the important role of ecotourism. You will also enjoy some of Uganda’s best birding experiences.

Next we travel to Bwindi – home to over 340 mountain gorillas with four main groups of mountain gorillas to be trekked. This national park has got also many other species of primates including the chimpanzees, monkeys among others.

Day 1: Kampala/ Entebbe  – Drive To Ngamba Isalnd Chimpanzee Sanctuary

After breakfast at your hotel in Kampala you will enjoy a road transfer Entebbe. Upon arrival you will be driven to the pier near the Uganda Wildlife Education Center(UWEC).

After briefing by your guides, you will depart for the island by motor boat on Lake Victoria at around 9.00am. The boat takes about 45 minutes or an hour depending the boat you take and ride to Ngamba Island, crossing the Equator en-route.

As you sail along the Lake Victoria’s waters, you will see local fishermen with their fishing nets etc, many species of birds like the Cormorants, Cattle Egrets, Open Billed Storks, Sacred Ibis, Egyptian Geese, Yellow Billed ducks, kingfishers and Fish Eagles among others.

On arrival at the island, home to orphan chimpanzees, you will be given a short introduction and briefing on the sanctuary. After which, it’s feeding time!

It is interesting to watch the chimps interact with each other and with their keepers.

In the relatively short amount of time you are there you will be able to see such different chimpanzee personalities amongst the different groups, with some wrestling for food,clapping, rolling etc.

Buffet lunch on the island. You will return to the mainland where you will meet your safari guide who will drive you to your hotel in Kampala/ Entebbe in the evening.

Day 2: Kampala – Drive Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you have a full day’s drive to Bwindi National Park, in the South West of the country. It will be a long day in the vehicle, passing some interesting scenery, farmland and lush green hillsides.
You will have a brief stop at the Equator which provides an opportunity of photographing. Continue to the rolling hills and terraced landscapes of Kabale District.

Have lunch in Mbarara town and proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park for a night.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking, Cultural Entertainment

After an early morning breakfast and guide briefing, set off for your gorilla tracking in the forests of Bwindi. Gorilla tracking can be strenuous because of Bwindi’s challenging terrain.
You will need to carry packed lunch and drinking water, and wear comfortable boots or sturdy shoes, as well as carry a light rain jacket as Bwindi has unpredictable weather. Walking sticks will be available from the park rangers.

A friendly encounter with these gentle giants will be your most exciting experience! For conservation purposes, time spent with the gorillas is limited to one hour.

The ranger guide always briefs you on how to behave with these gentle giants. After an encounter of a group of gorillas some with silver backs, one can say “a sight of Gorillas has made my life time tour”.

In the evening, you will have a cultural walk to interact with the local people. Participate in captivating traditional performances presented by Women’s groups or orphan children groups.

Note that the fees you pay for these performances go directly to improve the welfare of families around the park.

Day 4: Explore Bwindi National Park

Further trekking opportunity should permits be available, or the option of a forest walk to look for birds and other primates, alternatively, just relax in this beautiful area.
Bird watching with over 350 species, including 23 Albertine endemic species around the waterfall trail and in the Mubwindi swamp land – from where Bwindi derives her name – in the Ruhija sector makes Bwindi Impenetrable forest one of Africa’s leading birding destinations.

Other optional activities in the area include; Forest walk to waterfall trail along the way you will see plenty of flora and fauna, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, lots of colorful butterflies, orchids, tree ferns, epiphytic ferns.

Along the way to Bwindi you will not miss to see native Ankole long-horned cows, scenery, along the way you will see the traditional way of life of the local people and the Volcanoes that dominate the beautiful landscape, towering over the beautiful scenery on this Uganda trip.

Day 5: Bwindi Forest – Drive To Lake Mburo National Park

After that interesting gorilla tacking expedition, rise up early in the morning and drive to Lake Mburo National Park. View the undulating Kisoro hills on the way.

Have your fun while taking your lunch and head to the park for a game drive. This park is uniquely known for being the habitat to the burchell Zebras, statungas, impalas gigantic eland antelopes the list is endless.

You should remember that this park is also the only one of its king in Uganda that has a big lake midst it.

You can also carry out a walking safari in this park because it is proved to have no predators/ man eaters. The animals cannot be exhausted because of time.
