White Water Rafting Athi River Kenya 3 Days 2 Nights: There are few river trips on this planet that can compare with the Athi River expedition.

Classified as one of the top ten river trips in the world, the bountiful Athi River provides a combination of exhilarating white water and stunning views of African wildlife in its natural habitat.

The section of the Athi River that you will raft borders Tsavo National Park to the east. You will be able to view, bushbuck, giraffe, buffalo and elephant, not to mention crocodiles, monkeys, baboons and hippos.

The bird life is spectacular and has a record of over 120 species to date. If you like multi-day expedition style trips then the Athi is for you!

Flowing through Tsavo National Park, we raft up to 80km’s of Kenya’s second longest river with three days and three nights on the river.

The river gives an awesome mixture of relaxing calm water with game viewing (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, crocodile and hippo have all been seen from our boats) and abundant birdlife interspersed with some great whitewater (up to grade IV).

The trip usually goes out fully self supported with our guides providing breakfast (full cooked or cereals/ fruit/ toast), lunch (a selection of cold meats and cheeses with bread/ salad and fruit) and dinner (three courses).

If a more luxury trip is your style then vehicle support (at an extra cost) is available to bring those added necessities.

The Athi River is a “pool/ drop” river meaning that we float through the pools of calm water admiring the wildlife and then navigate a rapid between class 2 and 4 white water, giving us the ultimate river Safari.

Day 1: Nairobi – Drive To “Yatta Gap Bridge” (Border Of Tsavo East National Park)

0800 Hours:) You will be picked up in Nairobi and met by your trip leader who will explain everything about the expedition while on the 4-hour route down to the starting point near “Yatta Gap Bridge”.

1200 Hours: On arrival you will have a small lunch (cold cuts, salads, bread and cheese, cold beer or soft drink),

1300 Hours: Load all the gear in the rafts and start an easy float 4 hours down-stream, covering a distance of 10 kilometers to the first night camp. Mainly calm water. Superb bird life all around, particularly the kingfishers, heron and weavers.

1800 Hours: The night is spent on a suitable sand bank along the river at a point accessible to our Land Rovers which carry all food and equipment. Four course evening meal, plenty of cold drinks.

The first night is spent round the campfire listening to the sounds of Africa and swapping stories with the guides about the days ahead. Retire to one’s sleeping bag as you wish with the sounds of the river and “Africa”, lulling one to sleep.

Crocodile are a certainty, hippo almost as certain.
